    Fire Uniform Inspection

The care and repair facility at Fire Uniform Clean is certified and fully trained to perform inspections according to NFPA regulations as follows:

Routine inspection
A routine inspection is carried out by the firefighter as often as possible usually after the fire uniform has seen active duty, or during periods of inactivity. The firefighter will be looking for soiling, contamination of any other kind, physical damage, damage to the integrity of the trim, trim that is completely missing, stitches that are missing, or loss of seam integrity to ensure that all components are correctly assembled.

Advanced Inspection
The advanced inspection of fire uniforms should be conducted at least once every six months, this according to the National Fire Protection Agency. A certified third party must be used to inspect this protective clothing and this is where Fire Uniform Clean plays a role.

  • soiled fire uniform elements must be cleaned prior to inspection.
  • inspection findings must be documented and tracked
  • all elements of the routine inspection must also be adhered to
  • NFPA required tests to be conducted on garment elements
  • light evaluation test of liners must take place
  • evaluation for leakage
  • physical and thermal damage to be assessed
  • inspect fire uniform for missing hardware
  • test the moisture barrier integrity
  • inspect seam, material and label integrity
  • reflectivity and closure system

Complete Liner Inspection
A complete liner inspection should take place on fire uniforms that have been in operation for three years or longer. This should be done once every 12 months in order to abide by NFPA regulations. Again the testing has to be carried out by a certified third party, and Fire Uniform Clean is your certified third party. This is not a simple process as each garment has to be taken apart and then sewed back together again.
The processes for a complete liner inspection include:

  • separation of the liner to expose hidden sides of moisture barrier
  • required moisture barrier test
  • evaluation of water penetration barrier
  • liners passing the inspection must be sewn back together
